May 19-25, 2010 Volume 3 – Issue 16
A word from our Pastor:
If You Aren’t Reading Through to the Prayer Requests, You Should
Today is Tuesday. Among other things, that means Drew or myself is responsible for writing a
newsletter article. By far, this is the most time consuming aspect of the newsletter. First, I have to
wake up the creative energies of my brain and try to think of a topic that will do two things: Edify you
and make you think. Usually, this process takes up about two hours or so of my Tuesday. I enjoy it, for
the most part, even though I have a sneaking suspicion that only a handful of folks ever read the article.
But that’s okay. I don’t mind if only a handful of folks read the article. Sometimes, I probably think
my articles are far more interesting and edifying than they actually are. Besides, the newsletter articles
are not the most important part of this newsletter: the prayer requests are. While I don’t mind if you
skip the occasional boring and uninformative article that Drew or myself cranks out on Tuesday, I do
mind if you skip the prayer request section.
The prayer request section represents the needs and desires of our church family and their friends.
There, you can learn how to pray. Each time the newsletter pops into your email, we should all go
straight for the prayer request section and intercede for our church family members and their friends.
This will be good for you and for them.
We have all made this promise, “I will, as God enables me, care for my brothers and sisters in Christ in
distress, sickness and poverty.” We can begin to fulfill that promise by praying for each other. Through
prayer and deliberate intercession, God will knit our hearts together as a family, and if you are praying
regularly for someone, you will be more likely to develop a more personal relationship with them.
So are you doing praying? Did you know that Penny, Steve Hellum’s sister, has a Craniopharyngioma?
Did you know that the Seckels have a young grandson who has been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes
and that another grandson was in a serious automobile accident recently? There are a host of prayer
requests in this newsletter and some of the issues are ongoing concerns. So please, take a moment, first
thing, to go down to the prayer request section and pray!
And while you are at it, pray for me. I need your prayers. I want to be a better husband, father, and
pastor. Would you pray for me? Would you pray for others? If you have a request that you would like
to see go in the newsletter, contact Amy and she would be happy to put it in there.
Praying for us all,
Bro. Brad

coming weeks. If you are interested in having the book club meet in your home one of those months,

May 16. Your check must be clearly marked as being for the summer book club.
Praise/Prayer Requests:
• Pray for Daniel, Ernie and Bernice Seckel’s grandson who was in a car accident. Pray for him as heis still recovering.
• Pray for the Pastor Edwin of the Primera Iglesia Bautista Church in Albertville. He has a bloodinfection.
• Pray for the Hixon’s as they have been approved to adopt a baby from China. His name is JosiahNolen Junhay Hixon. There is still some paperwork and such to finish, but the main hurdles have
been cleared. Pray for baby Josiah and the Hixons. Josiah has a few physical challenges that he will
have to overcome, so pray for him!
• Pray for Phyllis Patterson and her family. She has stomach cancer and it has already spread to mostof the stomach cavity.
• Pray for Penny Roney, Steve Hellums’ sister. Penny has a Craniopharyngioma. That's a benigntumor that affects the pituitary gland causing hormone imbalance and headaches. It can also put
pressure on the optic nerve, causing vision problems. The good news is that it isn't cancerous. The
bad news is that she may have to deal with the affects of the tumor for life. Please pray for the
doctors that the Lord will lead them to the best treatment.
• Pray for the Seckel’s grandson, Ethan, who has been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.
• Pray for Gloria Childress’ brother, James Pierce, who is in kidney failure and not doing well.

Our mission and passion at New Covenant Baptist Church is to glorify God by becoming a community that
fosters the love of God with all of the heart, soul, mind and strength, and by learning to love one another as Christ
Jesus has loved us. The answer to every heart's need and the satisfaction of all our longing is found in Jesus Christ
our Lord, who is Himself the very image of Almighty God. We exist to adore Him, and to spread the knowledge
of His greatness to the ends of the earth.
